⛳️ How to get your first full-time job in sport
Learn how Clayton landed a role at Golf Australia as the Commercial Partnerships Coordinator
Hello friends! 👋
Welcome to this ✨ members-only edition ✨ of the SportsGrad Newsletter. Each week we take a deep dive into ‘how to get a job in sport’.
Meet Clayton Henderson, Commercial Partnerships Coordinator at Golf Australia - Learn about how he landed his first full-time job in sport👇
Today’s newsletter highlights a pervious Members-only Q&A about how Clayton got his first job. If you want more of this, check out the resource hub with over 50+ hours of recordings, or RSVP for future ‘Career Q&As’
In June 2022, Clayton came on the podcast for some live career coaching 1:1 with Reuben. Back then, he was desperate to make the jump from his part-time roles, to a permanent full-time position.
Soon after, he landed his first full-time gig at Cricket Victoria as a Membership Experience and Sales Officer, but it was only a short term contract. Clayton kept hustling, and when Golf Australia messaged Reuben about who might be a good fit for a Partnerships Coordinator role, Clayton’s name was immediately put forward. (Because he shows up to all the events!)
5 days later, he began working at Golf Australia in a full-time capacity on the Australian Open.
In this Q&A session, Clayton chats with members about how he made the transition from university, to a dream full-time position, rubbing shoulders with Cam Smith.
This is the perfect listen if you’re wanting to learn more about how to effectively transfer skills from one job to another, how to sell yourself in conversation (without sounding like you’re selling yourself), and what a day in the life looks like at Golf Australia.
Keep an eye out for more of these ‘Career Q&As’ with professionals inside the SportsGrad Community.
“Anyone can go to class, do assignments, and then do an exam. It’s the people who go out, get experience, and build upon their knowledge that they’re learning at uni, that go further with it.”
