Meet Parth Suri, Community Engagement Manager at the Adelaide Crows - This is how he got his job 👇

Tell us about your new job? What will you be doing?

My new role will be as the Community Engagement Manager at the Adelaide Crows in the AFL. This is a dream role for me as my job will be to grow the social impacts of Adelaide Crows community programs, as well as manage player appearances. To oversee and look to grow, all of the community programs and increase the impact on the football community, will serve my inner purpose of “service” and public engagement.

What problem did you have trying to get a job in sport before you joined? And how long had you been trying (or thinking about) to get a job in sport before joining?

I had been actively applying for roles for about 6 months, as I wanted to get back to working in sport. I was finding that my “ideal roles” were so out of reach, and at times, I would not even hear back from the employer, after putting hours and hours of effort into my applications. I felt like I needed something more than just a resume and a cover letter.

Why did you decide to join the SportsGrad Community?

I decided to join SportsGrad as I had identified that I was not getting my first picked roles, and there was a need for me to put myself out there and network. Networking has great value and this was the easiest, most casual way to create a wider network for myself. I had seen all of the SportsGrad social media posts and it showed just how relaxed and easy going this concept was going to be, and be a part of.

How long did it take you to land a full-time job in sport after joining the SportsGrad Community?

I joined the Sports Grad community on May 16 2023 and I got my new role with the Adelaide Crows on June 14 (less than one month later).

How did you use the connections and resources inside the Community to help you get this job?

I made some really good connections with two of the members in SportsGrad, one of them who did a podcast about the impacts of sport in community. I then reached to them and they helped me prepare for my multiple interviews and were extremely supportive, they made themselves available for multiple phone calls, which eventually contributed to my success. The other member, guided me on how to have conversation around salary and resignations with my current employer. These two connections helped me over a 3-4 week period and supported me in landing my dream role.

There is also a range of amazing resources available which I used to refine my cover letter and resume.

How long had you been thinking about joining the SportsGrad Community before you decided to sign up?

I had thought about joining the program for about 3 months before signing up, and boy was it worth it! I got instant rewards from it. Whilst I know this does not happen to instantly for all, what it shows is, there is so much value in this program.

What would you say to anyone else who’s on the fence about becoming a Member?

Don’t sit on the fence like I did for a while, get active and join the dang thing! It’s epic and adds great value to you not only as an employee, but also as a person, expands your network, and you never know who you are going to meet!
